Beginners and Developers
Every golfer has a first swing. Each year, hundreds of students arrive in St Andrews having never picked up a golf club. Many are curious to try the game but face barriers, whether financial, practical or simply a lack of confidence.
Saints Golf removes those barriers by creating welcoming opportunities for students to discover golf in the Home of Golf.
Your support helps provide:
- Beginner coaching programmes
- Equipment provision
- Development squad coaching
- Handicap pathways
- Buddy and mentoring programmes
Impact
One lesson can become a lifelong passion. Your support helps students discover far more than golf. It creates friendships, builds confidence, improves wellbeing and gives students a genuine sense of belonging that often defines their entire university experience.
Rosie’s journey shows how a single opportunity can grow into a lifelong passion:

“The lessons at the range undoubtedly kickstarted my love for golf, which quickly became one of my favourite parts of studying in St Andrews. Paired with the Golf Club’s Development Squad where we gained confidence on the course, I improved rapidly and went from being a complete beginner in Freshers’ Week of my first year to playing the Old Course and participating in Women’s matches by March, making many friends along the way. I have benefited from these programmes immensely and cannot imagine a better way to make golf both enjoyable and accessible at St Andrews.”
