For students who’ve completed at least two semesters of beginner lessons and are ready to move onto the course, Saints Golf offers a tailored Development Programme. Designed to build confidence, sharpen skills, and support you in working toward your first official golf handicap, this programme is the perfect next step on your golfing journey. To be eligible for this programme you will also need to be a member of the student Golf Club.

Development programme

Run by the Student Golf Club, this programme is all about getting out on the course and learning how to really enjoy the game. Instead of focusing on technical swing drills, the emphasis is on playing, building confidence, and discovering how to manage a round with the support of fellow students.

Through structured on-course sessions, members learn about course management, the rules of the game, and how to handle different playing situations. The sessions are led in a relaxed, friendly environment where peer mentoring plays a big role — more experienced student golfers share their tips, encouragement, and enthusiasm, making every round feel supportive and fun.

Along the way, participants are guided step by step towards gaining their first official handicap, opening the door to club competitions and new challenges. It’s a chance not just to improve your golf, but to be part of a community where learning, laughter, and progress go hand in hand.

Get a handicap

Imagine the moment — the call comes inviting you to your very first corporate golf day. We want every student to feel confident enough to say yes and step onto the course knowing they truly belong. Golf is a game for life — one you can enjoy at any age, anywhere in the world — and it opens doors to friendships, opportunities, and unforgettable experiences.

The Student Golf Club’s development programme is designed to help you take that first step towards an official handicap, recognised across the UK through its affiliation with Scottish Golf. More than that, it’s about giving you the confidence, skills, and passion for the game that will stay with you long after your time at university.

From friendly competitions and inter-university matches to relaxed rounds with friends on a sunny afternoon, this is your chance to begin a journey into a sport that can truly last a lifetime.
