Golf Alumni

Founded in 2005, the St Andrews Graduate Golf Society (StAGGS) marks its 20th anniversary in 2025—a milestone that celebrates two decades of camaraderie, connection, and a shared love (or light-hearted tolerance!) of golf.

Celebrating 20 Years of Friendship, Fairways, and Fun

StAGGS was created with a simple ethos: fun and inclusion. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer, a complete beginner, or someone who just enjoys the social side of things, you’ll find a warm welcome here. In fact, you don’t even need to like golf — our social events are all about good company, laughter, and making new friends.

Who can join?

Anyone with a connection to the University of St Andrews is invited to join — alumni, staff, JYAs, and more. StAGGS is proudly non-elitist and open to all, regardless of golfing ability. As one graduate once asked, “Do you need to be good at golf?” Absolutely not! Most of our members are far more skilled in the art of post-round storytelling than in lowering their handicap.

What we do – flagship UK events

We host a variety of events throughout the year, both on and off the course. Our members are world-class when it comes to sociability—especially in the 19th hole, where the real magic happens.

StAGGS is also going global. We’ve held social events as far afield as Hong Kong, and we’re exploring our first US-based event this year—stay tuned.

  • The Auld Putter – Held during Alumni Weekend in June at St Andrews, in partnership with the Arnold Palmer Trophy.
    2024 Winner: Matt Bery
  • The Auld Jug – Hosted at the prestigious Royal Automobile Club, Epsom, on Friday 29th August 2025.
    2024 Winner: Freya Noad

We’re also excited to announce our first equipment sponsor, who has generously donated a premium golf bag for the Auld Jug event. We’re actively seeking further sponsorships, especially from golf holiday companies and related organisations.
