Competitors

Saints Golf provides a variety of competitive opportunities for all student members — from weekly club events to elite university tournaments — ensuring everyone can find their place on the course.

Club competitions

All members are invited to take part in weekly club competitions for all abilities, which are followed by Wednesday night Men’s and Women’s socials — the perfect mix of friendly competition and community spirit. The club also offers an outstanding calendar of fixtures against some of the UK’s most renowned golf clubs, with matches at iconic venues such as Muirfield, Royal St George’s, and Royal Liverpool. These social fixtures give every member the chance to experience world-famous courses and create unforgettable lifetime memories.

British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) championships

Student golfers at the University have the opportunity to compete in both individual stroke play events and team match play leagues as part of the national British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) championships. Proudly supported by The R&A, the BUCS golf programme continues to raise the standard of university golf across the UK.

BUCS Team Championships – Match Play

The University fields five mixed competitive BUCS golf teams, participating in weekly league fixtures and knockout competitions throughout the season.

Our Mixed 1st Team competes in the BUCS Premier North Division and has achieved outstanding success, winning the BUCS National Match Play Team Championship three times in the last four years.

R&A Student Tour Series

The R&A Student Tour Series provides student golfers outside the USA and Mexico with the opportunity to test themselves against the very best university players in Europe, competing on some of the continent’s most iconic golfing venues. Each tournament is a 54-hole WAGR-ranked event, open to both male and female players, combining elite competition with unforgettable experiences.

For our performance golfers, the series is about more than just golf — it’s a chance to travel across Europe, experience world-class courses, and immerse themselves in different cultures along the way. From historic links to championship layouts, every stop on the tour offers something unique, both on and off the course.

The season culminates in the prestigious R&A Student Tour Series Final, staged in April 2026 over the Jubilee and Old Course in St Andrews. Reserved for the top 30 men and 12 women in the Order of Merit, the final represents the ultimate prize: the chance to compete for the title on the most historic stage in golf.

The University of St Andrews has already made its mark on the Series. In 2024–25, golf scholars Judd Sundelson and Judy Joo created history by claiming both the Men’s and Women’s Order of Merit titles, a landmark achievement that showcased the University’s standing at the very pinnacle of European student golf.
